Each and every PC or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which interacts with the computer hardware, including peripherals such as a mouse and a printer, and any applications that are present on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a server, any application runs within the parameters defined by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This is valid for both standard website scripts and server-side software like a media server. If a virtual server is created on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, which means that you'll be able to set up a different software environment on the same machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
If you decide to purchase one of our VPS server plans, you will be able to opt for one of the three Linux releases which we supply for the Operating System of the servers - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are among the most well-known and most reliable server OSs available on the market and we offer them in order to give you a choice for the software environment of your machine in case that you want to install some app with specific requirements regarding the packages that must be present on the server. We also offer three web hosting Control Panels and which one of them you can use will depend on the OS that you have selected. We leave the possibility to replace the server Operating System open, so if you want to use software that requires an OS different from the one you already have, we can always reinstall the VPS. In addition, we can keep the OS up-to-date on a weekly basis by installing any security updates that may be released.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
If you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page as we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on the machine as different apps may have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their huge support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and safe Internet hosting service. Depending on your choice, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected in the beginning does not meet the requirements of the software which you want to run. We can also upgrade the OS routinely to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
